How to Keep Your House Cool for Less

Looking to cut back on your summer cooling bills? Fortunately, there are a few simple changes you can make at home to cool your home more efficiently. These tips will help you keep your home cool for less this summer.
Summer Cooling Tips:

  • Turn On Your Fans – Your ceiling fan provides more than a breeze. Fans can help cool, air conditioned air circulate throughout the room.
  • Schedule HVAC Maintenance – Regular HVAC maintenance ensures that your air conditioning unit is working efficiently. If air is flowing freely through your system, you can cool your home more efficiently, without overworking the system (and costing you money).
  • Close the Blinds – Keep the blinds closed while you’re at work. The hot summer sun beating through the window can cause unnecessary heat gain. Keeping them closed will keep your home cooler for less.
  • Seal Your Windows & Doors – Windows and doors are a big source of heat loss/gain in the home. If the are not sealed properly, you’ll find that warm summer air will leak it’s way inside, and cool air-conditioned air will be lost through the cracks and gaps. Take the time to make sure your windows and doors are well-sealed during your spring home maintenance.
  • Upgrade Your Air Conditioning Unit – Many older air conditioning models don’t work as efficiently as new, Energy Star models. If your air conditioner is very old or breaks down frequently, it might be worthwhile to upgrade to a newer model for the summer months.
