How to Spring Clean Your Home Air Quality

Did you know that indoor air quality can be two to five times MORE polluted than outdoor air? This spring, we remind homeowners to take the time to improve their indoor air quality — so that you and your family can breathe a little easier. Here are a few things you’ll want to add to your spring cleaning checklist.

How to Improve Home Air Quality:

  • Improve Ventilation – We tend to keep our windows shut tight during the winter months, but opening them on the next warm spring day is not the answer. Instead, you should make sure that your HVAC system is well-maintained and ready to filter out dust and other pollutants.
  • Change Your Air Filters – Over time, your air filters become clogged with dirt and dust. This keeps air from flowing freely through your HVAC system. You can even install a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter to improve your A/C efficiency. Changing your air filters should be part of your spring cleaning routine, prepping your air conditioning system for the summer months.
  • Install a Carbon Monoxide Detector – Carbon monoxide poisons over 400 people every year. Protect yourself and your family by installing a carbon monoxide detector near where you sleep. If you already have a detector installed, now is the perfect time to replace your batteries.
