Dirty Little Secrets of Plumbing

Plumbing may not seem like the most glamorous field — and we'll admit, sometimes it’s downright messy. But a little mystery always adds to the fun, which is why we’re letting you in on a few dirty little secrets of the plumbing industry.

Knowing where your water shut off valve is can save your home.

If a pipe bursts or there’s a water main break, knowing where your shut off valve is can prevent your home from flooding entirely.

“Flushable” wipes are not flushable.

No matter what the package says, wipes don’t break down the same way toilet paper does, so flushing them just puts your plumbing at risk of developing a clog.

A little drip goes a long way.

Even if your faucet is dripping just a few drops per minute, this can waste up to 200 gallons of water a day. That’s a lot in utility costs.

Hair is your plumbing's arch nemesis.

Letting your hair flow down the drain when you shower is a recipe for disaster and is bound to cause a clog. Invest in hair traps to keep your plumbing safe.

Your pipes are not coat racks.

Just because the pipes are exposed, it doesn’t mean you should use them as a place to hang your jacket. All this does is put weight on the pipe and put it at risk of breaking.

Monday is our busiest day of the week.

Just a little fun fact. This is typically when spouses call us to fix the “work“ their significant others tried over the weekend.

The best service costs more upfront.

You may not like it, but a company with a good reputation typically charges more for their service because they’re getting the job right the first time. Even if you pay more upfront, you likely won’t have any future problems and won’t have to spend money having things looked at again.
