How to Lower Your Home's Humidity

A lot of people love the warm weather summer brings, but almost no one likes the humidity that can come along with it. And the only thing worse than dealing with that stickiness outside is having to deal with it inside your own home.

Luckily, there are a few things you can do to lower your home’s humidity levels and be much more comfortable.

How to Lower Your Home's Humidity

Take Advantage of Exhaust Fans

You may love taking hot showers, but all that heat and steam can seriously increase your home’s humidity. When you take a shower or cook in your kitchen, make sure to have your exhaust fans on to get rid of extra moisture and heat.

Crack Some Windows

Humidity levels rise in your home because extra moisture is stuck inside with nowhere to go. If it starts to feel too humid, crack a few windows to allow moisture to escape and fresh air to circulate through your home.

Move Some Plants Outside

While houseplants can be great for your indoor air quality, they’re not that great for humidity. Plants release moisture, so move a few outside to help your home feel a bit less muggy.

Clean Your AC

If your AC’s coils are dirty or the drain pan is blocked, it produces more condensation which evaporates into the air and makes your home much more humid. If you’re not sure how to clean your unit, call your trusted HVAC tech for help.

Keep Parties Outside

You may think having party guests inside will help keep them cooling, but with so many people talking and breathing in the same room, you’re actually putting a lot of moisture into the air and increasing your humidity. Try to have any big gatherings outside to avoid this.

Install a Dehumidifier

Sometimes, little efforts aren’t enough, and you need more help keeping your home cool and dry. Dehumidifiers work with your AC to get rid of extra moisture in your home and protect you and your home from the effects of high humidity.
