How to Combat Dry Air

One of the worst parts of winter is how dry the air gets. If you’re like most people, you’ve woken up on a cold winters morning feeling like you’re about to have a nose bleed because you spent the entire night breathing in dry air. Thankfully, there are several things you can do to combat dry air and keep your home much more comfortable.

Stock up on Houseplants

Plants do a wonderful job of putting moisture into the air. As they “breathe“ they not only add moisture into the air, but they add fresh oxygen as well, improving your overall indoor air quality.

Shower with the Bathroom Door Open

Normally, we advise you to always use your bathroom fan to get rid of the humidity that your hot showers produce. But to combat dry air, leave your bathroom door open and let the steam spread throughout your home, adding a bit of moisture to the air.

Crack a Window

One of the main reasons your home's air feels so dry in the winter is because, like most homeowners, you seal up your house to keep all of the warm air inside. To improve your humidity levels, crack a few windows in your home to let outside air in. Do this for a few minutes each day to combat dry air and improve your comfort level.

Invest in a Humidifier

Sometimes, all the DIY efforts just can’t improve your home’s air. Whole home humidifiers help regulate your humidity so that your air doesn’t feel as dry and you can breathe much more easily.
