Tips for Cleaning Your Range Hood

If we had to think of one extremely underrated component of your kitchen, it would probably be your range hood. You turn it on every time you cook (or at least you should) to get rid of steam and odors that occur, and it makes a real difference in your home's humidity and indoor air quality.

However, in order to have it functioning properly, you need to clean your range hood every once in a while. Here are a few tips to help make that process go smoothly:

Clean It Often

The more often you clean your range hood, the easier it will be. If you allow it to go dirty for a long period of time, you'll have to spend more time scrubbing to get your desired results. It’s best to clean your range hood at least once a month.

Clean the Air Filter

Just like your HVAC unit, if your filter in your range hood is dirty, it will inhibit the airflow and prevent smoke and other odors from being cleared. Remove the filters and soak them in a basin of degreasing solution. Once grease and other gunk has fallen away, rinse the filter with warm water and soap and allow it to dry before putting it back in.

Clean the Vent

This task is often best left to the professionals, but it is also one that is important to check off. A dirty vent not only inhibits your system’s airflow, but all that built up grease may be a fire hazard.

Clean the Range Hood

While it's sucking up all that smoke, steam, and odors that come from your cooking, your range hood can get a bit dirty and greasy itself. The best way to clean it is by using a simple, non-abrasive household cleaner to remove any dirt and grease from the range hood.
