Stop Wasting Water at Home: Essential Tips for Saving

In this day and age, we are all well-versed in why it’s essential to conserve water and the ways we can do so. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that all of us follow that suggestion. While wasting water is bad enough for our environment, it’s also pretty bad for your utility bill. It’s time you start recognizing the ways you’re wasting water in your home.

In Your Kitchen

How often do you fill up a big pot of water, make your pasta, and then dump the water right back down the drain after you’re done? Huge waste of water! Instead, use that water to create soup or water plants around your home.

You also may be running your dishwasher when it’s only half-full or washing your dishes by hand and letting the water run while you lather every single fork and knife. Instead, lather everything up first and then rinse them with a small amount of water, and only run your dishwasher when it’s full.

In Your Bathroom

Do you really need to spend 30 minutes in the shower every morning, sometimes again at night, when most of that time is dedicated to daydreaming? Give yourself a maximum time of 10 minutes in the shower, and maybe skip a day or two when you don’t need to be squeaky clean.

You also should swap out all of your old plumbing fixtures for low flow models that use a fraction of the water that you’re currently using. And lastly, you’ve heard this one a thousand times: stop letting the water run when you’re washing your hands or brushing your teeth.

In Your Laundry Room

Like your dishwasher, you should only run your clothes washer when you have a full load to clean. You should also swap out old, outdated washers with high-efficiency units that use much less water.
