How To Maintain Your Air Conditioning Condenser

How To Maintain Your Air Conditioning Condenser

This spring, we recommend getting your air conditioner in working order before the hot summer days hit. With annual central air maintenance, you can save money, increase the efficiency of your unit, and prevent breakdowns. Since air conditioning condensers are located outdoors, they tend to accumulate dirt and debris. Here are a few tips to help maintain your condenser and keep your system clean.

Condenser Maintenance Tips:

  • Lawn Maintenance – Cut down any grass, weeds, and vines that have grown around the unit. These plants can obstruct airflow.
  • Clean Coils – There are several commercial coil cleaners available that allow you to flush the coil clean. Don’t use a hose!
  • Clean Fins – Use a soft brush to remove any dirt from the fins. You may have to remove a protective grille in order to reach them. Again, don’t use a hose and be careful when cleaning. They are made of light-gauge aluminum and can be easily damaged.
  • Concrete Pad – Make sure that the concrete pad the unit rests on is level. If the pad has settled, lift the pad and force gravel or rocks the concrete to make it level.
