How to Prevent Plumbing Problems This Halloween

Halloween is a holiday for candy, costumes, trick-or-treaters and jack-o-lanterns. Will you be throwing a Halloween party with family and friends? As you get ready for your weekend celebrations, it’s important to remember a few things about your plumbing system to help prevent problems during your party this weekend.

How to Prevent Plumbing Problems:

  • Watch What You Put Down Your Disposal – Garbage disposals are a great way to keep food particles out of your plumbing, but you still have to be careful about what you put down them. If you’re carving a jack-o-lantern today or tomorrow – be sure to keep pumpkin pulp out of your disposal. Pulp can wrap around the blades and clog your disposal.
  • Keep Pumpkin Pulp Out of Your Drains – Even if you don’t have a garbage disposal, you should be careful to keep pulp out of your drain pipes. Although the pulp may appear soft, it can harden and stick to the walls of your kitchen drain pipes, causing a clog.
  • Remind Guests to Be Careful – Whenever you have guests over, you should remind them not to flush anything other than waste and toilet paper down your toilet. Anything else can clog your system! Be aware of bits of costumes and other objects that can clog your drain line.
