How to Prevent Plumbing Problems While Away

How to Prevent Plumbing Problems While Away

Planning a summer getaway? As you prepare for your vacation by packing your bags, don’t forget to make a checklist for your home too. Here are a few tips to help you prevent plumbing problems at home while you’re enjoying your time away.

Vacation Prep Tips:

  • Turn off Main Water Valve – If you do experience any plumbing leaks or cracks in your pipes while you’re away from home, turning off the main water valve will protect your home against flooding! This valve turns off the water running to your home so that even if a pipe bursts, your home won’t be flooded with water.
  • Check Your Sump Pump – Check to make sure that your sump pump is working efficiently while you’re away. If you do experience heavy summer rains while you’re away from home, your sump pump will keep your basement from flooding.
  • Turn Off Outdoor Faucets – You won’t be using any outdoor faucets while you’re away. Instead of risking cracks and leaks, turn the water off to your outdoor faucets.
  • Turn Down Your Water Heater – Turn down the temperature on you water heater to save on energy while you’re away.
