Preparing Your Heating System for the New Year

Preparing Your Heating System for the New Year

We all prepare for the upcoming New Year in different ways. Some of us start creating vision boards of goals they want to achieve over the next 12 months, while others start researching gym memberships to sign up for once January rolls around.

Whatever preparations you’re making for the new year, there are a few you should also make when it comes to your heating system.

Preparing Your Heating System for the New Year

Change Your Air Filters

Your air filters are responsible for keeping dust, dirt, and other debris out of your heating system. Not only will dirty filters not be able to catch more debris, but since they block your unit’s air flow, your heating system will have to work harder to function — meaning more energy usage and higher energy bills.

Start the year off right with a new, clean air filter, and change them each month moving forward.

Clear Some Space

You shouldn’t have any clutter within a several foot radius of your furnace. Clutter such as cleaning supplies, storage boxes, and the like, not only block off air flow from your unit but can also be huge fire hazards. Take some time to clear the space around your unit to keep your family and home safe.

Schedule a Tune-Up

Just like you may want to start off the New Year in great shape, your heating system should too. Schedule a tune-up with your trusted HVAC technician. He or she can check your heating system to ensure that all its parts are in good condition and that it will work properly over the next several months.
