How to Winterize Your Home

How to Winterize Your Home

Is your home ready for the winter? Freezing temperatures can put your plumbing system at risk. Even if the temperature drops for a short period of time, frozen water can cause your pipe to fracture. Here are a few tips to help you avoid winter plumbing problems this year!

Winter Plumbing Tips:

  • Insulation – Make sure your pipes are well-insulated! Even a tiny hole in your crawl space or vent can let cold air blow in. Be sure to fill in any cracks.
  • Close Garage – If you bathroom or laundry room is located above or next to you garage, the space can get cold quickly. Keep your garage door closed to keep the heat inside!
  • Open Cabinet Doors – If you’re anticipating a particularly cold day, keep your vanity doors open to allow heat inside. You could also consider investing in a space heater.
  • Disconnect Hoses – If you haven’t disconnected your garden hose yet, you should do so soon. You don’t want your hose to freeze over the winter!
